PPC Renewables Romania to Add Battery Storage to Wind Farm

PPC Renewables Romania will construct a 40.08 MW / 80.16 MWh battery energy storage system at its Corugea wind farm in Tulcea County, southeastern Romania. The project aims to expand the company’s renewable energy portfolio and contribute to grid stability. The Romanian government will co-finance the RON 87.4 million project with RON 9.9 million from the Modernization Fund.

The company intends to continue adding storage capacity alongside expanding renewable energy production, targeting 2 GW of installed capacity in Romania. The Corugea wind farm currently has 35 turbines with a 70 MW capacity and generates roughly 190,000 MWh of electricity each year.

This project follows the recent installation of a 4.47 MW / 8.94 MWh battery system at PPC Renewables Romania’s solar park in Colibași. The addition of battery storage is intended to help integrate more renewable energy sources into the grid.
