Romanian Group Launches Pediatric Cancer Recovery Guide

Why this is here: The guide brings together the expertise of ten Romanian specialists—including physicians, physical therapists, and psychologists—to create a comprehensive resource for pediatric onco-hematological recovery.

APCAO, a Romanian association for parents of children with oncological conditions, launched the first multidisciplinary recovery guide for children with malignant hematological diseases in Bucharest. The guide was presented on May 13th at the Fundeni Clinical Institute and developed with support from Kaizen Foundation. It combines medical expertise with practical recovery approaches, intended for healthcare professionals working with young oncology patients.

The guide addresses complications from treatment—neurological, muscular, and skeletal—and includes sections on patient evaluation, physiotherapy programs, and long-term reintegration. Experts in pediatric onco-hematology, recovery medicine, and psychology contributed to its creation, including Professors Anca Coliță, Violeta Teodorescu, and Mihaela Apostu.

APCAO will distribute the guide free of charge to medical institutions across Romania. While the guide represents a valuable resource, further collaboration between APCAO and Kaizen Foundation is planned through 2026, including doctoral scholarships and support for recovery camps. The work to improve outcomes and quality of life for these young patients continues.
