Eric Roberts Visits Bucharest Children’s Psychiatry Clinic Site

Actor Eric Roberts visited the construction site of the new Prof. Dr.

Alexandru Obregia Children’s Psychiatry Clinic in Bucharest, Romania. Roberts, an Oscar nominee, toured the facility with Codin Maticiuc and Eduard Irimia, who lead initiatives supporting public hospitals. His visit signals international support for the project, which aims to improve mental healthcare for children and adolescents in Romania.

The new clinic will span roughly 3,900 square meters and include 67 beds, over 40 rooms, and more than 20 therapy rooms. It will also feature a dedicated section for adolescent addiction treatment. The total investment is estimated at 16.5 million euros, with about 6 million euros raised so far through donations and sponsorships.

Currently, the Obregia clinic treats over 5,700 patients annually, exceeding its capacity. Organizers note a rising number of young people facing severe depression, behavioral disorders, autism, and addiction, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among adolescents. Work on the clinic continues as fundraising efforts proceed.
