Why this is here: The revival of 11 water bodies in Anantapur involved collaboration between a couple, 400 villagers, and focused on transforming neglected land into functional water sources.

Villagers and officials across India are implementing solutions to address water scarcity and revive depleted sources. In Bansawargaon, Maharashtra, residents ended tanker dependence by repairing canals and tracking water use. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, installed rainwater harvesting systems on 1,000 public buildings to recharge groundwater.

A couple and 400 villagers in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, revived 11 water bodies through the Ananta Neru Sanrakshanam project. They transformed neglected land into water-holding spaces, supporting both livelihoods and biodiversity.

Kahan Singh Pannu, a retired IAS officer in Punjab, demonstrated that paddy can be grown with 25% less water using a new seeding method. This addresses concerns about groundwater depletion due to irrigation demands.
