Officer Rescues Family From Burning Tennessee Apartment

Officer Rogers of the Chattanooga Police Department in Tennessee ran into a burning apartment building on May 1 to save a mother and her two children. Residents near the Hixson apartment told Rogers people remained trapped inside.

He found Rachel Blaylock and her children, Charles, age 10, and Marlowe, age 4. Rogers carried Marlowe to safety while Blaylock followed with Charles.

Rogers then attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher until firefighters arrived. The Chattanooga Police Department acknowledged officers receive no specific fire training, but praised Rogers for upholding his commitment to the community.

Blaylock expressed her gratitude, stating she worried about safely getting her children down the stairs. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigators continue to assess the damage.
