Woman Gives Away Bikes to Children in Canada

Krista Richard in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, has given away free bicycles to children for fourteen years. She runs Bikes and Trikes for Everyone, collecting and repairing donated bikes. This year, Richard distributed 88 bikes in one day and over 400 last year.

Richard believes bicycles foster community by encouraging outdoor activity and interaction between children and their families. She notes a decline in neighborhood connections due to indoor entertainment. Currently, over 400 children await bikes through her program.

Richard finds fulfillment in witnessing children’s joy. One boy riding his new bike repeatedly thanked her for doing a “good job.” Despite years of work, the waiting list demonstrates continued need and the program’s ongoing demand.
