Why this is here: The Swaasa app differentiates itself from other AI-based screening tools by analyzing actual cough sounds—a diagnostic approach validated by research showing each cough has a unique signature.

An app called Swaasa® analyzes cough sounds via a smartphone to identify potential cases of tuberculosis, asthma, and COPD. Developed by Salcit Technologies, Swaasa® is being used in mobile medical units in India to screen patients, particularly those with risk factors or contact with TB patients.

The app assesses coughs within 30 seconds, indicating whether further testing is needed. Researchers found Swaasa correctly identified respiratory issues in 87.32% of cases, comparable to a physician's diagnosis. This technology aims to improve screening rates, as over 63% of those with TB symptoms in India do not seek medical help.

Swaasa® can perform 360 assessments on one charge and functions in areas with limited connectivity. Over 400,000 individuals have been tested with the app, and pilot programs are expanding to multiple Indian states.
