Indigenous Arts Flourish: Guitar Tribute, Museum Exhibit, & Tech-Inspired Weaving

Kiowa rock guitarist Jesse Ed Davis will be honored with a tribute in Venice, California on July 25 featuring a reading from a forthcoming biography and performances by musicians who played with him. The event aims to reframe Davis’s legacy beyond his struggles with substance abuse, celebrating his life and musical contributions.

In Nashville, Tennessee, the Country Music Hall of Fame is showcasing the artwork of Navajo artist Jeremy Salazar in an exhibition titled “We’re Still Here”, running through September 11, 2026. Salazar’s paintings and photographs emphasize realistic facial expressions set against abstract color schemes, reflecting his upbringing on the Navajo Nation.

Meanwhile, the Hessel Museum of Art in New York is exhibiting the work of Navajo weaver Marilou Schultz, who blends traditional techniques with digital imagery. Her exhibition, “Replica of a Chip”, includes a woven replica of an Intel Pentium chip, exploring the intersection of Navajo labor and technology. The exhibit runs through November 29.
