Central African Republic & UN Launch Development Hub to Boost Peace & Economy

The government of the Central African Republic and United Nations agencies jointly launched a development hub in Birao, a city in the northeast of the country, on July 18th. This initiative aims to strengthen local socioeconomic development, consolidate peace, and improve access to basic social services. The hub seeks to support the return of refugees and internally displaced people, as well as improve daily life for local communities who have experienced decades of instability and limited access to aid.

Located near the borders of Sudan and Chad, approximately 1,300 km from Bangui, the development hub will prioritize improving healthcare, education, agriculture, livestock farming, and income-generating activities in the Vakaga region.

The Central African Republic currently has 14 development hubs distributed across regions most affected by crises, indicating a broader strategy to address instability through localized development. Officials emphasize that peace and security are essential for continued progress.
