Cameroon Criminalizes Cyberharassment and Sextortion

Three Cameroonian NGOs, Fondation Cœur de Mère, SNK, and Cyber Inno Shield, launched the “Bouclier numérique” program to address rising rates of cyberharassment and sextortion in Cameroon. The program unites digital experts to prevent online abuse, raise awareness, and support victims who often lack resources.

Ghislaine Mangoua, coordinator general of Fondation “Cœur de mère”, discussed the initiative on Afrique Midi. The program responds to a growing problem of online harassment and the sharing of intimate images for blackmail, leaving many victims feeling isolated.

The NGOs aim to provide a listening ear and practical solutions. The “Bouclier numérique” program seeks to offer comprehensive support, but the long-term impact will depend on continued funding and collaboration with law enforcement to effectively prosecute offenders.
