Egypt Inaugurates Water Station in South Sudan

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam announced the opening of a groundwater station at the University of Juba in South Sudan. The station received funding from an Egyptian grant and demonstrates Egypt’s ongoing commitment to development cooperation with Nile Basin countries.

South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation James Mawich Makuach inaugurated the facility alongside Egypt’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Hazem Mamdouh. The new station will provide safe drinking water to students, staff, and local communities, improving public health and supporting education.

Egypt and South Sudan have collaborated on water resource projects for years, including the construction of 28 solar-powered groundwater stations. These projects also encompass waterway rehabilitation, forecasting centers, and training programs, all aimed at improving water management and living standards in South Sudan.
