Mexico Urged to Track Orphaned Children of Violence

Former federal deputy Eufrosina Cruz Mendoza is calling on the Mexican government to create a national registry of children orphaned by violence, including those whose parents were victims of femicide, homicide, forced disappearance, displacement, and organized crime. Cruz argues the current lack of a national registry leaves these children without adequate emotional support or access to continued education. She specifically requests that the government guarantee educational assistance through university and provide sufficient psychological care.

Cruz criticized the abandonment of children, particularly in Indigenous communities, and noted that many are excluded from social programs due to a lack of legal guardians or prolonged court processes determining their care.

She expressed optimism that the proposal will become effective public policy with sufficient funding, emphasizing that these children deserve the necessary resources. The initiative aims to eliminate legal barriers preventing access to social programs and provide comprehensive protection for vulnerable children.
