Mexican Customs Agents Back Investigations Into Fiscal Smuggling

The Confederation of Associations of Customs Agents of the Mexican Republic (CAAAREM) expressed support for investigations into “huachicol fiscal”, fiscal smuggling, and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and illegal practices within Mexican customs. The organization stated these actions harm revenue collection and threaten the country’s economic security.

CAAAREM indicated it will collaborate with authorities to strengthen Mexican customs and foreign trade, emphasizing that responsibility will be determined through legal channels. The confederation clarified that its affiliated agents adhere to the law, a code of ethics, and internal compliance mechanisms, and those who violate these standards are removed from the institution.

Since February, CAAAREM has implemented a self-regulation model involving its 38 associations through internal ethics, integrity, and compliance mechanisms. The organization also collaborates with the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, the National Customs Agency of Mexico, and the Tax Administration Service to modernize and increase transparency in the customs system.
