Why this is here: Six in ten people in Mexico currently report they would prefer not to menstruate due to the discomfort and difficulties associated with it.

Essity released findings from its Second National Menstrual Management Survey in Mexico. The survey reveals roughly 66% of people report receiving insufficient or no information when they first menstruate. Essity conducted the survey with UNICEF Mexico and the Menstruación Digna México collective.

Early access to information improves physical and emotional wellbeing. It also supports school attendance and helps people feel more confident in their bodies. In 2022, about 69% of people reported limited or no information at the start of menstruation, a slight improvement to 66% three years later.

Currently, six of ten people would prefer not to menstruate due to discomfort. Thirteen percent report experiencing teasing or uncomfortable comments at school.

Essity responds with affordable menstrual products, partnerships with UNICEF, and educational initiatives. They also host the Ciclo M Festival on May 29th at Parque Aztlán to foster open conversations. Further research continues to clarify needs and improve access.
