Guerrero State Launches Plan to Develop Mountain Region

Government officials in Guerrero, Mexico are implementing a strategy to develop the mountainous region of the state through investment in infrastructure, connectivity, and agriculture. The plan aims to address historical inequalities affecting the area, which has a high concentration of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican populations, around 30 percent of the national total.

Recurring challenges like heavy rainfall and seismic activity continually damage roads, requiring ongoing repairs. The current focus is on restoring the road network and building rural roads to connect historically isolated communities.

Beyond infrastructure, the government intends to support agricultural production through guaranteed prices and government purchases of key products like corn, beans, and coffee. Officials believe strengthening local economies will reduce agricultural worker migration and provide opportunities for younger generations within their communities.
