Why this is here: The alliance comes after taxi drivers blocked access to Mexico City’s airport terminals to protest ride-sharing apps, following a call from the president for dialogue and a solution.

Uber and MX Taxi announced a new alliance in Mexico allowing users to request concessioned taxis directly through the Uber app. This partnership ends years of disputes between the two groups.

The agreement does not make taxi drivers Uber partners. Instead, it’s a digital scheme where Uber-solicited rides will use MX Taxi technology.

Uber Mexico’s director general stated this cooperation follows 14 years of competition. He emphasized the alliance will give taxi drivers access to millions of users. This access will reduce wait times and create more income opportunities.

MX Taxi’s director called the agreement a “historic victory” for the taxi industry. He noted the integration respects the independence of concessioned taxis.

Drivers will receive ride requests through existing channels and via the Uber app. The alliance aims to revitalize the taxi industry and improve service.
