Esthela Damián Receives Staff of Command to Revitalize Acapulco’s Historic Neighborhoods

Residents and representatives from Acapulco’s historic neighborhoods presented Esthela Damián Peralta with the Staff of Command during the Assembly in Defense of National Sovereignty in Acapulco, Mexico. Damián Peralta, former legal counsel to the Federal Executive, accepted the honor and pledged to work toward rescuing the city’s historical and cultural heritage.

She emphasized the importance of recognizing Acapulco’s 30 traditional neighborhoods as central to the port’s identity and collective memory. Damián Peralta recalled Acapulco’s past as an international destination and stated a need to recover that legacy through community-based efforts.

Neighborhoods like Petaquillas, La Candelaria, and La Cuerería, known for its artisans and sailors, were specifically mentioned as holding key parts of Acapulco’s history. The handover of the Staff of Command occurred during an assembly uniting community leaders from across Acapulco, signaling a collective desire to preserve the city’s roots.
