Joé Dwèt Filé Champions Haitian Konpa Music

Franco-Haitian singer Joé Dwèt Filé intends to popularize konpa music, a genre originating from his Haitian homeland, following the success of his song “4 Kampé.” Initially hesitant to be labeled solely a “konpa artist,” Dwèt Filé previously limited the genre’s presence in his albums, fearing it would restrict his reach.

Inspired by artists like Fally Ipupa who revitalized Congolese rumba, Dwèt Filé broadened his musical palette and now embraces konpa, integrating it into his seventh album alongside influences from hip-hop and reggaeton. The streaming era has helped Caribbean music reach new audiences.

Dwèt Filé’s hit “4 Kampé,” released at the end of 2024, garnered 170 million views on YouTube and a collaboration with Burna Boy, though it also faced copyright challenges. While longing to return to Haiti, currently destabilized by gang violence, he plans a konpa concert at Paris La Défense Arena in December and is exploring a future life in Benin, where he felt a similar strong energy.
