Gyeonggi Province Opens Center to Support Children with Disabilities

Gyeonggi Province in South Korea opened the Gyeonggi Disability Children Support Center in Suwon on July 15th. The 273 square meter facility will provide early intervention services for infants and young children at risk of or with disabilities, as well as support for their families.

The center, a regional hub established under the Child Welfare Act for Persons with Disabilities, will employ ten staff members including occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, and speech therapists. They will conduct initial consultations, needs assessments, and comprehensive evaluations to create individualized support plans.

The center plans to immediately begin providing early intervention services to 76 children under six years old, connecting families with resources in healthcare, childcare, education, and welfare. Governor Choo Mi-ae stated the province aims to strengthen support systems to ensure early detection and intervention for children with disabilities.
