Animated Film About Fukuoka Bombing to Screen in Japan

An 88-year-old animated film depicting the 1945 Fukuoka bombing will screen in six locations across Fukuoka city, Japan, starting July 22. A digitally remastered, high-definition version of “Hi no Ame ga Furu” (The Falling Rain of Fire) aims to educate younger generations about the air raid and the realities of war.

At a commemorative screening held June 19, 88-year-old Toshiko Moribe, a survivor of the bombing, spoke passionately about her experiences with hunger, fear, and sadness. She urged viewers to understand the truth of war and advocate for peace, specifically calling for the preservation of the constitution and an end to war.

The screenings will be accessible to viewers with visual or auditory impairments thanks to the addition of Japanese subtitles and audio descriptions produced by the volunteer group Barrier-Free Theater Aiming. Tickets cost 800 yen, with free admission for children under school age.
