Why this is here: The electric boat can complete two consecutive excursions without needing to recharge, demonstrating ample energy capacity for the twelve-kilometer tour.

In Dorgali, Sardinia, Agriturismo Canales now offers boat excursions on Lake Cedrino using an electric vessel. The agriturismo converted an existing Sunchaser 7518 Cruise pontoon boat to electric power, aligning with a regional law promoting electric navigation on inland waters. Francesco Nieddu of Agriturismo Canales explains the decision stemmed from a desire to maintain the lake’s quiet atmosphere, already popular with kayakers, and reduce environmental impact.

The electric boat, powered by a 20kW ePropulsion X20 motor, easily covers the roughly twelve-kilometer tour route. It currently recharges at the dock using a standard cable, though a dedicated charging station is planned. Nieddu notes the batteries rarely reach critical levels, and a single charge restores power from sixty to one hundred percent in just over two hours.

The service operates until July, as lake levels fluctuate significantly. While passengers express surprise at the quiet operation, widespread adoption of electric tourist boats remains slow across the region. The agriturismo continues to explore ways to integrate renewable energy sources, like their existing photovoltaic system, into the operation.
