Los Angeles Port Invests $75 Million in Electric Trucks

The Port of Los Angeles allocated $75 million in incentives to encourage the adoption of electric trucks, furthering its commitment to decarbonizing port operations. The port began pioneering electrification in 2004 with the introduction of Alternative Maritime Power (AMP), allowing ships to connect to shore power and reduce diesel emissions.

Los Angeles currently boasts 80 AMP connection points, more than any other port globally. Recent federal grants totaling over $150 million will further expand shore power connections at Los Angeles, Long Beach, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The new funding will provide up to $300,000 per electric heavy-duty truck for eligible operators, supported by both the EPA’s Clean Ports Program and the Port of Los Angeles’s Clean Truck Fund Rate. This investment is part of a larger $600 million package aimed at achieving zero-emission terminal operations.
