ITALIA SOLARE launched a new Agrivoltaic Observatory to collect and analyze data on agrivoltaic systems across Italy. The organization will build a national database tracking agricultural and energy production, technical performance, and economic viability of these combined agricultural and solar energy installations. Rolando Roberto and Marco Balzano of ITALIA SOLARE are coordinating the initiative with support from Professor Stefano Amaducci of the Università Cattolica di Milano.

The observatory aims to address the current lack of objective data in the agrivoltaic sector, which combines agricultural production with renewable energy generation. Data will be collected semi-annually or annually, tracking factors like location, technical specifications, crop types, water usage, and investment costs.

ITALIA SOLARE intends for the observatory to become a permanent resource for monitoring the sector’s evolution and guiding future development through evidence-based practices. They plan to create a dedicated platform, demonstration sites, and technical visits to share knowledge and foster collaboration.
