LONGi Green Energy of China announced it reached 35.5% efficiency with its small-area silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell. The company revealed the result on July 14, 2026, at a conference and had it independently certified by the European Solar Energy Testing Institute (ESTI).

This new record builds on previous milestones for LONGi, which has rapidly improved its tandem cell efficiency from 33.9% in November 2023. These gains are occurring in laboratory settings with very small cells, around 0.9 cm² in active area, and scaling up to commercial sizes without losing performance remains a challenge.

However, LONGi also holds records for larger cells, including a 34.4% efficiency for a 261 cm² unit, suggesting progress toward industrial application.
