Lombardy’s Small Businesses Drive Sustainability Efforts

Confartigianato Lombardia reports that 163,752 businesses in the Lombardy region of Italy are actively involved in protecting and maintaining local territories, with two-thirds identified as artisan enterprises. The organization presented these findings at the fourth Sustainability Forum in Rome, emphasizing the role of micro and small businesses in a development model prioritizing competitiveness, environmental protection, and social cohesion.

These businesses are particularly focused on energy transition and circular economy practices. Over 17,000 companies operate within the renewable energy sector, while nearly 29,000 are engaged in repair, reuse, and material recovery.

Confartigianato Lombardia argues for policies that support these smaller enterprises, acknowledging that regulations and incentives must be scaled to their size. They highlight the importance of accessible financing, competitive energy costs, and simplified tools to ensure a truly inclusive sustainability model that doesn't leave vulnerable businesses or communities behind.
