Italian Data Protection Official Releases Album on Digital Literacy

Agostino Ghiglia, a member of the Italian Data Protection Authority, and journalist Angela Orecchio released an album titled ONLIFE! E.C.D. aimed at educating young people about digital privacy, artificial intelligence, and responsible internet use. The duo, performing as Priva&CY with Bo(o)ts, created the twelve-track album to reach audiences beyond academic publications and conferences.

Ghiglia emphasizes that data protection is about safeguarding personal intimacy, not just signing forms. He and Orecchio wrote the lyrics, while Ghiglia’s children assisted with the musical arrangements to ensure the album resonated with contemporary tastes, incorporating genres from punk rock to trap.

The project builds on Ghiglia’s existing work promoting digital citizenship through books and legislative proposals. The album’s title references Luciano Floridi’s “onlife” concept, the blurring of lines between online and offline existence, and utilizes artificial intelligence platform Suno for music production.

Songs address topics such as phishing, cyberbullying, and the responsible use of AI. Ghiglia hopes the album will empower individuals to be informed citizens rather than passive users, and reminds users to update their passwords starting July 23.
