Why this is here: The report noted a 47.2% increase in reports of donations after cardiac death, leading to a 50.6% rise in transplants from this source—now representing 19.9% of all transplants performed.

Italy’s transplant network achieved record numbers for organ, tissue, and hematopoietic stem cell donations and transplants in 2025. The preliminary report from the National Transplant Center (CNT) showed 2,164 organ donations last year. This represents a 3.2% increase compared to 2024, originating from 3,293 potential donor reports.

A total of 4,697 transplants were performed, 55 more than in the previous year. The national donation rate reached 30.2 donors per million people. Veneto, Tuscany, and Piedmont regions reported the highest donation rates.

Donations after cardiac death increased significantly, with reports up 47.2%. Conversely, registered objections to organ donation rose to 40.1% when applying for electronic identity cards. The national transplant system held 24,841,250 recorded declarations of will as of December 31, 2025.
