Cello Music Walk Celebrates Sifnos' Tradition

Over 300 people participated in a musical walk across the Greek island of Sifnos on July 3rd, blending traditional and classical music. The event, part of the annual MuSifanto festival, featured musicians stationed along a route from Panagia Geraniofora to Kato Petali, inviting participants to walk, sing, and dance.

MuSifanto began 11 years ago through the work of musician and producer Frangiski Psacharopoulou-Karori, who aimed to provide musical opportunities for children on smaller Greek islands. Her daughter, Juliet Karori, now leads the festival, continuing the tradition of bringing music to those who lack access to arts education in Athens.

The festival also included performances like a guitar duo at the Monastery of Panagia tou Vounou and a cello recital at the Monastery of Pyrgosi. MuSifanto has expanded from Sifnos to include musical workshops on islands like Kasos, Kea, and Ikaria, currently teaching over 300 children piano, guitar, and traditional instruments.
