Typhoon Project Cleans Six Greek Islands

The Athanasios K. Laskaris Public Benefit Foundation completed its second cycle of coastal cleanups on six islands in the South Aegean.

Syros, Mykonos, Delos, Antiparos, Despotiko, and Keros. The Typhoon Project team observed improved coastal conditions compared to the initial cleanup cycle.

The program emphasizes local volunteer efforts, notably engaging 918 students on Mykonos to clean three beaches in six days. The project also collaborated with students at the Syros Naval Academy to raise environmental awareness among future sailors.

Data collected during the second cycle demonstrates a reduction in waste on previously cleaned beaches, indicating the effectiveness of consistent intervention and increased local awareness. The Typhoon Project has now cleaned 4,800 coasts across Greece and removed over 1,090 tons of waste during its seven years of operation. The foundation will continue its cleanup efforts throughout the country in the coming months.
