Corfu Receives Educational Investments and Innovation Centers

Greece’s Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, visited Corfu on Thursday to inaugurate new educational infrastructure and announce further investments in the region’s schools. Zacharaki opened a new Innovation Center, announced the inclusion of local schools in the network of Experimental Schools, and inspected building projects. She also received the Silver Medal of Saint Spyridon from the Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos, and Diapontian Islands.

The visit included a review of school renovations completed through the “Marietta Giannakou” program, totaling nearly 2 million euros, and discussions with the Ionian University regarding future development initiatives. Zacharaki also presented plans for new interventions funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, including interactive systems, lab equipment, and sports facilities. Since 2019, 1,159 teachers have been permanently appointed to the Ionian Islands.

The Minister emphasized a commitment to modern, quality, and equitable public education for all students in Corfu, with total investments in the region exceeding 4 million euros over the past three years. The new initiatives aim to strengthen public schools, special education, and innovation across the island and the Ionian Islands region.
