EU Solar Power Hits Record 25% in June

Solar power generated a record 52 TWh of electricity across the European Union in June 2026, supplying 25 percent of the bloc’s power needs. This marks the third month solar has been the EU’s largest single source of energy, surpassing nuclear, gas, and wind.

Germany, Spain, and Poland led the growth, with Spain generating over a third of its power from solar for the first time. The rapid expansion of solar capacity, increasing by over a fifth annually between 2021 and 2025, is driven by its low cost and quick installation.

In Germany, consumers are increasingly adopting plug-in solar kits, with over a million installed between 2022 and 2025. Poland, traditionally reliant on coal, is also experiencing significant growth in solar energy, reaching nearly 24 percent of its electricity generation in June. Experts note that further progress requires addressing barriers to wind energy development.
