Why this is here: The city placed a commemorative plaque at the exact location where Silveiro Segovia and his son Luis Alberto disappeared in 1976, connecting the abstract number of disappeared persons to a specific family’s tragedy.

The Municipality of San Fernando commemorated Argentina’s National Day for Memory, Truth, and Justice with a ceremony honoring victims of the 1976 civic-military dictatorship. The event included the unveiling of a plaque at Urquiza and Entre Ríos streets to remember those who disappeared following the coup.

The commemoration marked the 50th anniversary of the coup that initiated a seven-year dictatorship characterized by killings, persecution, exile, and disappearances. Secretary of Government Ignacio Pérez stated the day serves as a reminder of the roughly 30,000 disappeared persons and the need to continue fighting for memory, truth, and justice.

Cristina Maderna, Director of Municipal Human Rights and Cult, emphasized the importance of sharing these events with younger generations to prevent repetition. Daniel Segovia, son and brother of two disappeared individuals, expressed both sadness and gratitude for the unexpected tribute, noting the enduring pain of loss.
