Cambodian Community in France Honors Ancestors

In Annonay, France, Cambodian residents gathered to commemorate the 100th day after the death of Porn Pen, observing a traditional Buddhist ceremony. Without a dedicated temple, the community held the service in a multipurpose room, creating an improvised altar with candles and a photograph of the deceased. Sothear Mouchoux explained the event honors the deceased and assists their passage to the afterlife.

The ritual, which included recitations and prayers, was followed by a shared meal featuring traditional Cambodian dishes like neorm sach moan and samlor machu. This gathering, along with celebrations of the Khmer New Year in April and the Festival of the Dead in October, serves to strengthen bonds within the Cambodian community of Annonay.

The community maintains these traditions despite being geographically removed from Cambodia, demonstrating a commitment to preserving their cultural heritage and ensuring continuity for future generations.
