Perth Opens Australia’s Largest EV Bus Depot

Western Australia’s government completed upgrades to the Karrinyup bus depot in Perth, installing 56 dual electric bus chargers and 112 charging plugs. The $250 million federal and state initiative aims to replace diesel buses with an electric fleet, and has already delivered 130 electric buses to Perth.

The Karrinyup depot now operates 53 electric buses, with plans to increase that number to 110 by the end of the year. Jet Charge completed the retrofit, also upgrading the substation and CCTV systems.

Upgrades are ongoing at Bayswater and Jandakot North depots, with planning underway for Welshpool, Joondalup, and Claisebrook. Officials expect 11 new electric buses to enter service each month, requiring continued infrastructure development to meet demand and expand the electric fleet.
