Balcony Solar Power Gains Momentum in Wisconsin

Renew Wisconsin reports that balcony solar power systems, popular in Europe, are under development for the US market and could soon be available in Wisconsin. These small-scale solar arrays plug into standard electrical outlets and can offset electricity usage for a few appliances. Currently, Wisconsin lacks specific regulations permitting their installation, though over 20 other states are considering or have passed related legislation.

The systems utilize the same solar technology as larger rooftop installations and are designed with safety features like automatic shut-off mechanisms. Because of their limited output, these kits shouldn’t require utility company approval.

A Wisconsin proposal is in progress to establish rules and regulations for safe installation and use. Advocates suggest contacting state election candidates to express support for clean, affordable energy before the next legislative session begins in January.
