Western Australia to Buy Wind Power from New Farms

renewablewatch.in · 24 March 2026

Why this is here: The combined capacity of the wind farm agreements—over 1 GW—surpasses Western Australia’s stated goal for replacing coal power with wind energy.

The Western Australia government will purchase electricity from three new wind farms. Synergy will procure power from the 470 MW Parron Maam Marang Wind Farm and the 130 MW Kondinin Wind Farm. Both projects, developed by Zephyr Energy, Shell Energy, and Foresight Group, should begin delivering electricity by late 2028.

The Water Corporation will buy 330 MW from the 550 MW Marri Wind Farm. Alinta Energy is developing Marri Wind Farm, with operations expected to start in 2029. These agreements will provide over 1 GW of renewable energy capacity.

This total exceeds the state’s goal of 810 MW of wind power. The new wind farms will replace Western Australia’s remaining coal-fired generation. Neoen completed the 412 MW Goyder South wind farm in South Australia in October 2025.
