Sun Drops Energia Wins Gujarat Battery Storage Deal
Why this is here: The new project will add 240 MWh of battery storage capacity to Gujarat’s grid, joining a portfolio that already totals 1,130 MWh for KPI Green Energy.
Sun Drops Energia Limited, a company based in India, signed an agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to build a 120 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system in Gujarat. The project results from a competitive bidding process and receives funding through the power system development fund.
Sun Drops Energia will develop, own, and operate the battery storage at two substations. One will be near Gariyadhar with 65 MW/130 MWh capacity.
The other, near Otha, will have 55 MW/110 MWh capacity. The company will supply this storage capacity to GUVNL for long-term use.
This agreement brings KPI Green Energy’s total battery storage portfolio to 565 MW/1,130 MWh. Earlier in May, KPI Green Energy also received awards from NTPC Renewable Energy for solar projects in Rajasthan. The company still needs to complete construction and integration before the storage systems are fully operational.
