India’s Largest BESS Starts Operation in Gujarat

Why this is here: AmpereHour expanded insights from a 40MWh battery storage project in Delhi to deliver a 360MWh capacity system in Gujarat.
AmpereHour Energy and IndiGrid began operating a 180MW/360MWh battery energy storage system in Gujarat, India. The facility connects to a substation owned by Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam will purchase power stored by the system under a 12-year agreement signed this June.
This BESS is the largest of its kind in India and ranks among the largest in Asia. IndiGrid won the project through a competitive bidding process in early 2024, building and operating it independently. AmpereHour provided the technological support, utilizing its ELINA EMS and AH Suite software to manage data and logistics.
The project expanded on AmpereHour’s previous 40MWh project in Delhi. Researchers carried out simulations to meet Gujarat’s grid standards and optimize the entire electrical network. The system aims to improve grid stability by storing renewable energy and releasing it when demand is high, though long-term performance remains to be seen.
