Ocean Winds Gains Approval for 2Gw Scottish Offshore Wind Farm

Ocean Winds secured offshore consent from the Scottish Government to build the 2GW Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm, 40 kilometers off the Moray Firth coast of Scotland. The project is part of Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind leasing initiative and received full onshore consent from Aberdeenshire Council earlier this year.

Once completed, the wind farm will generate enough electricity for approximately two million homes. Ocean Winds anticipates the Caledonia project, alongside Moray East and Moray West, will create over 200 long-term skilled positions in the region.

However, the company notes that market uncertainties, specifically transmission charges, could impact the final investment decision and project timeline. Offshore construction is currently slated to begin in 2030, pending the outcome of a contracts for difference process.
