Why this is here: The city purchased each electric minibus for approximately P4 million, demonstrating a direct financial investment in a solution to increasing fuel costs for commuters.

Pasig City in the Philippines deployed five electric minibuses on March 23 to counter rising fuel costs. Fuel prices in the Philippines recently exceeded P90 (~$1.50) per liter. The city government invested P19.9 million (~$332,300) to expand its “Libreng Sakay” (Free Ride) program.

Each minibus can carry 30 passengers—22 seated and eight standing. The Pasig City Transport Development and Management Office will manage the initial deployment along Caruncho Avenue. Mayor Vico Sotto stated the initiative is a practical step toward sustainable infrastructure.

The rollout precedes a larger “Electric Love Bus” program in late April. This program is a partnership between the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines. Pasig City plans to add at least ten more electric units by year-end, aiming for 500 zero-emission buses across Metro Manila.
