Moment Energy Certifies Second-Life EV Battery System

Moment Energy in Austin, Texas, received UL 60730-1 functional safety certification for its battery management system. The certification applies to systems using repurposed EV batteries, addressing a key barrier to wider commercial and industrial use. It verifies the safety of these systems to standards comparable with newly manufactured storage.

Moment Energy already held three other UL certifications related to repurposed batteries and energy storage systems. The company designs its own battery management system, rather than modifying existing automotive ones. This approach respects the intellectual property of automotive partners like Mercedes-Benz Energy.

Moment Energy currently deploys these systems in locations across North America, including data centers and hospitals. The certification also supports the company’s ongoing work with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Further testing and deployment in diverse settings will continue to refine the technology.
