UK’s West Northamptonshire to Add 3,000 EV Chargers

Char.gy will install 3,000 on-street electric vehicle chargers in West Northamptonshire, UK, through a program funded by the UK government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund. The £2.85 million in government funding, combined with private investment, will target residents without access to home charging.

The majority of these chargers will utilize existing lamp columns, reducing disruption and costs during installation. West Northamptonshire Council and Char.gy selected locations based on suggestions from residents and local parish councils, prioritizing community needs.

This project addresses a key barrier to EV adoption, the lack of convenient charging for those who park on the street. The council anticipates the increased charging infrastructure will prepare communities for growing EV demand and enable more residents to switch to electric vehicles.
