Amazon to Power Facilities with Electrovaya Batteries

Amazon signed an agreement with Electrovaya to integrate the company’s Infinity Battery Technology into its material handling equipment. The deal supports continued deployment of the batteries within Amazon’s facilities and may extend to robotics and energy storage. As part of the agreement, Amazon has the option to purchase up to 13,880,345 common shares of Electrovaya.

Electrovaya claims its Infinity batteries offer improved safety, cycle life, and charging speed compared to other lithium-ion technologies, alongside a reduced environmental footprint and lower total cost of ownership. Lithium-ion batteries are well-suited for material handling due to their ability to support opportunity charging and operate across multiple shifts.

Electrovaya is currently expanding its US manufacturing capabilities with a new 137,000-square-foot facility planned in Jamestown, New York, intended as its first gigafactory. The company anticipates further applications of its technology in data centers and logistics.
