Altilium will implement ReGenTrace AI across its United Kingdom electric vehicle battery recycling facilities. The company intends for the platform, developed by Materia AI and now part of the Altilium group, to function as the digital operating system for its operations.

ReGenTrace will analyze incoming batteries to identify chemistry, health, and safety risks, then automatically sort them for optimal recycling. After initial processing, the AI will predict the composition of “black mass”, the material remaining after disassembly, and adjust refining processes in real time to maximize material recovery and quality.

Altilium aims to create a fully traceable system, connecting every battery from end-of-life to the production of new battery materials, supporting upcoming Battery Passport regulations and providing customers with data on material origins and carbon footprint. The company plans to begin operations at its Plymouth pilot plant in 2025.
