Addis Ababa Redesigns Itself for Residents’ Wellbeing

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is undergoing significant urban development focused on improving the quality of life for its residents. The city is prioritizing people-oriented public spaces through a corridor development initiative. This includes the construction of over 100 kilometers of bicycle lanes and extensive pedestrian pathways, alongside the creation of more than 70 new green parks and playgrounds.

The city is also addressing economic pressures by establishing modern markets and supporting local food production through urban agriculture. Social programs provide meals and educational support to students, while also assisting vulnerable populations and renovating older residential areas.

Addis Ababa is simultaneously focusing on environmental sustainability, restoring polluted river areas and investing in electric vehicle infrastructure. These combined efforts aim to establish Addis Ababa as a modern African capital prioritizing the wellbeing and dignity of its inhabitants.
