Ethiopia’s President Links Public Health to National Security

Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske-Selassie declared public health essential to national strength, development, and security while commemorating the Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) 100th anniversary in Addis Ababa. He noted EPHI’s longstanding role in advancing public health and building a resilient health system for the country.

The President specifically highlighted EPHI’s contributions to disease surveillance, research, and responding to outbreaks like COVID-19, Mpox, and Marburg. He connected a healthy populace directly to Ethiopia’s sovereignty and future development.

Taye affirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and modernizing Ethiopia’s emergency response capabilities. Plans include expanding EPHI’s technological capabilities and establishing a modern data analysis system to forecast disease outbreaks.
