Tanzania’s JKCI Leverages Smart Tech for Cardiac Care

The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in Tanzania launched a digital patient registration system and the Dozee remote patient monitoring technology in Arusha. Minister Paul Makonda stated the investment aligns with Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050 and its push for a knowledge-based economy.

The Dozee system uses a sensor placed under a patient’s mattress to track vital signs, heart rate, blood oxygen, and blood pressure, and transmits the data to doctors via mobile devices. This allows for continuous monitoring even after discharge, potentially reducing preventable deaths from sudden health changes.

JKCI also installed a modern echocardiogram machine at the Arusha Lutheran Medical Center and plans to add CT scan, MRI, and a Cath Lab to create a comprehensive cardiovascular care center. This initiative supports both improved healthcare access for Tanzanians and preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
