TAZARA Railway Gets Modern Training and Control Centers

Tanzania, Zambia, and China launched construction of a new Training Centre and Operations Control Centre for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The facilities aim to modernize railway operations and develop a skilled workforce for the expanding rail industry. Officials described the project as a vital investment in Tanzania’s transport infrastructure and a key component in strengthening connectivity between Southern Africa and the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The Training Centre will offer specialized skills for TAZARA, the Tanzania Railways Corporation, and future railway programs, while also facilitating technology transfer. The Operations Control Centre will improve train movement management through enhanced coordination and communication systems.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation is leading the revitalization program, building on the historical partnership that saw over 50,000 Chinese engineers and technicians work alongside East Africans during the railway’s initial construction. The project signifies a continued commitment to infrastructure development and sustainable railway operations in the region.
