Former PM Pinda Advocates Tree Planting in Tanzania

Former Tanzanian Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda led the planting of approximately 2,000 trees in Dodoma, urging citizens to prioritize tree planting and environmental conservation as a national duty. Pinda emphasized the importance of urban forests in combating climate change and improving quality of life as cities expand. The initiative, organized by Habari Conservation Organisation (HCO) and sponsored by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), aims to establish Dodoma’s first major urban forest.

This tree planting builds on the existing “Green Dodoma” campaign launched by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to create a more climate-resilient city. HCO reports already planting 7,000 trees at the site, working toward a 20,000-tree goal across 25,000 hectares.

The project intends to reduce temperatures, capture carbon dioxide, and enhance biodiversity, while also supporting carbon credit programs and beekeeping. Organizers hope to inspire broader participation by encouraging individuals and organizations to plant trees for special occasions, creating a lasting environmental legacy.
