Sunrock Installs Energy System for Welkoop Distribution Center

Sunrock equipped Welkoop’s distribution center in Apeldoorn, Netherlands with a comprehensive energy infrastructure. Welkoop, a retailer specializing in garden, animal, and outdoor products, will use the system to electrify its logistics operations.

The installation includes a photovoltaic system generating 2274 megawatt hours annually, enough to power roughly 900 households, a 300 kilowatt battery with 699 kilowatt hour storage capacity, and twelve charging stations for 24 vehicles. Sunrock’s energy management software will optimize the system.

This localized energy solution addresses the challenge of grid congestion in the Netherlands, enabling Welkoop to meet increased electricity demand despite limited grid capacity. The battery storage allows Welkoop to reduce peak loads and the smart charging infrastructure ensures the distribution center stays within its contracted power limits. Sunrock plans to apply lessons learned in the Netherlands to projects across Europe.
